I
live in Townsville North Queensland. I am a descendant of
the Brabralung people of the Kurnai group in East
Gippsland Victoria and most of my family still live in the
lands around Bairnsdale. My grandmother was a big
influence in my life. She told me that being Aboriginal
was something to be proud of and that I should never hide
our heritage. She also taught me all the craft skills when
I was very young, although she chooses to paint landscapes
and still life rather than what we know today as
Aboriginal Art.
I
started to paint for a living in 1995 when I saw a
newspaper ad for Aboriginal artists.
